Alex introduced me to a site called Pandora. I now spend a couple hours a day on it. It's basically a tool which analyses the kind of music you like and creates radio stations for you based on a particular song or artist. Sounds a bit like Yahoo launchcast but trust me it is infinitely better. Definiteky worth a look.....
I set myself a challenge the other day.
Try to get to number 1 in Google for one of the most searched for terms on the internet - "ipod".
Now, this is difficult. If I could reach number one in the search engines for "ipod" from a little work over the weekend I'd be a very rich man. But, even though it's an almost impossible challenge to compete with Amazon, ebay, BBC, I've already had some pretty good results for Gumtree.com.
second hand ipods - position 2 of 444,000
cheap ipods - posiiton 5 of 200,000
cheap ipod london - position 1 of 249,000
ipods London - position 4 of 2,850,000
ipod london - position 4 of 1,890,000
second hand ipod nano - position 1 of 65,600
These positions equate to about a couple hundred clicks per day.
Just goes to show that good site architecture, page optimisation, linking (like i'm doing in this post!) and understanding of the PR algorithm can result in decent amounts of traffic from competitive keywords.
I found this article the other day. It's the most definitive short story on Google I think I have ever read. Really worth a read.....
