Final ALC 6 Post

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write about my experience of AIDS/Lifecycle 6. I got back home and real life started to pile up. I'm not saying that ALC isn't real life, but it's a rare community of people. For one week the person riding next to you is a friend without a name. Patience, perseverance, understanding, and encouragement are the three things most seen out on the road... well that and some interesting outfits. (Yah… take a look at day one… pink and yellow? What was I thinking?!)

The ride was filled with personal challenges. I am proud to say… there was NO walking up hills for me! You really do get there a lot faster if you actually RIDE your bike. The only walking I did was into the WRONG tent. No, that Heidi didn’t grow chest hair… thank goodness! Then there were the new contacts. Think, camping and contacts? Not the best combination. By day 6, I think could see better without them. Next year, I’m bringing two pairs. *GASP* did I just say next year?

I think only time will tell if I do the Ride next year as a cyclist. I will definitely stay involved with the ALC, as a training ride leader, volunteer, or even perhaps a Roadie. Each year more and more meaning comes from my experience. Not just during those seven days, but throughout the year. Friendships grow, awareness increases, and the cause hits closer to home. During the Ride this year I found out that two more of my friends are HIV positive. I can only hope for one day when the Ride is a fond memory and not a necessity.

So now, when it’s all over? I go back to normal life… well for a little while until my next adventure begins.

Take a look at my online gallery at when you get a moment.

Thanks again for all your kind wishes, support, love, encouragement, donation, and laughs throughout the years! I surpassed my fundraising goal and reached $5,230. I was so proud to have my family and friends be a part of my journey.

Keep Rollin’
